Born and raised in Alaska, hockey started in 2015 for me when I was 36. I joined the Queens after a taking a short summer hockey clinic for ladies. In 2017 I started skating with the co-ed Rusty Blades league as well. Hockey has become a passion from the time on the ice and off the ice. Hockey for me has brought me together with a great group of people on the ice and off the ice. I served on the board in 2017-2019, and am on the tail end of a second term, 2020-2022. When I am not playing hockey with the queens, or skating Rusty Blades, I am out on some adventure running, hiking, camping with my pets, or cooking up something new in the kitchen.

I skated about three times in my life before I started playing with the Queens. I started playing goalie in 2016. In my first game, the girls had to push/pull me out to net. I’ve since learned how to move my feet and love it! Outside of hockey I’m an Occupational therapist/Certified hand therapist. I enjoy riding my fat tire bike, pottery, crocheting and well really any crafts. I have a wonderful 4 year old dog named Duke who runs the house as the fur baby.

Emily: I met someone during the hockey softball league in town who told me I should try hockey if I ever stuck around Kenai for the winter and I promised that I would. Then in 2018 I stared the first of many seasons with the Queens. It’s an awesome group of ladies to romp around on and off the ice with. I honestly can’t imagine my life without the Queens. I had zero prior hockey experience, but I was welcomed with open arms. I started out at wing but fell in love with defense, so that’s likely where you’ll find me on the ice.

I started playing hockey when I was 40. That was the day I joined the Kenai River Queens in 2014. I had only ever been on skates one time in my life prior to that. I LOVE it! I play center and back-up goalie, so you might see me out on the ice or in the net. Outside of hockey, I am a physical therapist and I love helping people and being active and outdoors including hiking, fishing, hunting, flying, and photography.

Despite an early love of Joshua Jackson in The Mighty Ducks and DB Sweeney in The Cutting Edge, I didn’t start to play hockey until 25 with the Kenai River Queens. Between the coaches and the other women on our team, I have learned to love this Hockey! Joining the Kenai River Queens has changed my life. I’ve met the best women in the world through the Queens. I love the sport, the women, and the opportunities to meet new people. When I am not skating, I teach High School English, read, knit, sew, cross country ski, and hike. I am a Hufflepuff.
New Player Liaison
Nicole Warren #37
I started playing with the Queens in 2019. I knew nothing about hockey and had only been on ice skates once before. At this point, I wish I would have joined sooner. My position is defense and I currently serve as the new player liaison. Playing with the Queens will teach you everything you need to know and you will become a part of an amazing family. My full-time job is as a physical therapist. My play life is dogs, skiing, SUPing, traveling, camping, and hiking.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
